KidsAbility Youth Advisory Council (KAYAC)
KAYAC is the youth voice for KidsAbility. Volunteers between the ages of 14 and 24 provide input to KidsAbility programs and services, plan events for youth and advocate on behalf of youth with disabilities.
As a council, they work with KidsAbility to act as a positive and energetic voice of youth to influence programs and activities. Another goal is to improve communication and access of information regarding issues for youth involved with KidsAbility. They have an open Facebook group called “KidsAbility Young Adults” for this purpose and plan and run events that will be of interest to KidsAbility youth clients.
KAYAC provides youth with leadership opportunities that encourage personal growth as well as an opportunity to earn volunteer hours.
There are two KAYAC committees: one for Waterloo Region which meets one Monday per month at the Waterloo site of KidsAbility and one for Guelph-Wellington which meets one Wednesday per month at the Guelph site. Members can attend meetings from home using Google Hangouts.
