EVENT DETAILS:
Flexible Superheroes - Kitchener - BSS Social Skills Group
The purpose of Flexible Superheroes is to generate new ways to solve problems by expressing wants and needs, advanced conversation skills, perspective-taking, and recognizing and responding to a bully. Adapted from Jensons' Superheroes Social Skills (2011), our group is an engaging multimedia program designed to enhance social competence and to teach critical skills to develop and maintain friendships. Throughout the weekly sessions, there will be opportunities for your child to learn about these skills through interactive lessons, modelling, role-playing, group games and co-operative activities. There will also be opportunities for your child to interact with peers in games and activities of their choice. During this time, Instructor Therapists will guide your child, as needed, to practice a variety of social skills including problem-solving, flexible thinking and social communication.
To improve flexibility and social communication through:
- behaviour skills training on weekly topics (instruction, modelling, rehearsal, feedback)
- prompting and reinforcement to teach priority goals each session
- data collection to assess acquisition of priority goals
Group Goals:- showing others you are listening and paying attention
- answering questions, making comments, and staying on topic
- recognizing emotions in self and others
- solving problems that come up in social situations
- identifying bullying and getting help
Families will receive a summary of recommendations outlining
the strategies developed through each week of group to continue to apply your
learning in other settings. By registering for this group, you are committing
to attending all session dates.
Dates: Weekly on Thursdays from April 20th
to June 22nd, 2023.
