Worry Warriors - Kitchener - BSS Social Skills Group
KidsAbility's Worry Warriors
group is designed to create a safe and fun environment where participants can
learn strategies to assist with managing difficult emotions and anxiety.
Children will learn to understand the ways in which our thoughts affect our
feelings, which in turn may impact our actions, or vice versa. Your child will
learn to identify feelings of worry or nervousness and how it physically feels.
Through meaningful group activities, interactive discussion, modelling and role
plays, learners will be provided opportunities to practice utilizing strategies
to cope with negative emotions, build self-confidence and resiliency.
To improve self-regulation and
social-emotional learning skills through:
- Behaviour Skills Training on
topics (instruction, modelling, rehearsal, feedback)
- Prompting and reinforcement
to teach priority goals each session
- Data
collection to assess acquisition of priority goals
Group Goals:
- Identify situations/personal
triggers that cause anxious feelings
- Label physical feelings of
anxiety in own body
- Uses a coping strategy when
presented with an anxiety-provoking situation
- Engages in
mindfulness/meditation/calming strategy/positive self talk
- Identifies level of own
anxiety using a visual rating system (e.g. feelings thermometer)
- Sorts triggers by in my
control vs. out of my
control
Families will receive a summary of recommendations outlining
the strategies developed through each week of group to continue to apply your
learning in other settings. By registering for this group, you are committing
to attending all session dates.
Dates: Weekly on
Thursdays in Kitchener, 4:30-6:30, from April 20th to June 22nd, 2023.
